Book 1 covers the basics of chess, from how pieces move, piece values, checks and checkmates, up to chess notation. The book is filled with coloured diagrams, arrows, highlighted squares. Using simple, direct language the book combines both explanations and puzzles to confirm that the student has actually understood the topic.

Book 2 provides an overview of chess notation, following on from Book 1, then goes on to piece development, basic tactics and checkmating themes.

These roll-up boards are ideal for teaching where there is a need to transport a number of sets - they are lighter than the fold-up boards. They too come in dark green and cream and display the coordinates.
