The Gold Coast Open is Queenslands biggest chess tournament with a record attendance of over 140 players in 2016. The event is a category 5 ACF and CAQ Grand Prix event, and will be ACF/QJ rated.
The U1600 division is open to all players under the rating of 1600 ACF.
Players must record their moves during their game. 1 pen per person will be provided, additional pens will be 50c per pen.

A maximum of 2 half point byes are available for players should the need arise (except for the final 2 rounds when no half point byes may be taken). These MUST be asked for prior to the previous round starting (e.g. If you request a bye for round 4, this must be done prior to round 3 beginning).
60 minutes per player + 10 seconds per move
1st – $600, 2nd – $250, 3rd – $100
Two rating groups: 1st – $150, 2nd – $100
Additional prizes will be allocated based upon sufficient entries.
Parents will need to make their own judgement as to whether they need to be present for the duration of the event. Gardiner Chess will take sensible steps including outlining the playing area and other inside areas for players to be in.
